An Evening of Indian Classics - Chokher Bali (Sand in my Eye)

Written by: Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay

Adapted by: Partha Chatterjee

Theater for the New City, NYC - November 2016

Adapted by Dr. Partha Chatterjee from Nobel Poet Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s ground-breaking novel, Chokher Bali (Sand in my Eye) tells the story of Binodini - a widow in 20th century Bengal, who finds herself entangled in a forbidden love triangle.

Through the use of the conventions of Greek tragedy, a fusion of traditional Bengali music with Western pop songs and race-blind casting, this presentation is a re-imagination of the classic from early 20th century Bengal as it relates to the world now.
