An Evening of Indian Classics - Devdas (The Servant of God)

Written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay

Adapted by Hypokrit Theatre Company and Junoon Performing Arts

Theater for the New City, NYC - November 2016

The iconic Indian tale written by Sarat Chandra has had more than 500 adaptations, almost always with a man at the center of it – Devdas – the symbol of love and loss. In this re-imagined version, the story of the tragic hero is told from the point of view of the women that loved him.

Set in India’s hyper-competitive reality dance competition world, this production of one of India's most beloved classics is one where women rule, and love and loss is just a transaction.

Original music: Aalap Desai

Choreography: Swarali Karulkar

Production Design: Kyle Rosenberg and Christina Tang
